Embracing Chaos To Deal With It!
Control Your Thoughts To Control Chaos...
Chaos surrounds us all day every day right? Well, there is a theory called the chaos theory and I thought this would be a great little topic for everyone to get a better understanding of. The chaos theory is nothing more than the science of surprises. Scientists have actually been able to create a new branch of mathematics to deal with surprises. Go figure right?
Over the last few months, I’ve watched many of you dealing with Chaos in your own little ways. Some of you have not been very good at it. Work has been quite chaotic, to say the least, hell, our world has been pretty chaotic and very unpredictable. I will go out on a limb here and say alcoholism is definitely on the rise. Really, the opioid crisis and homeless epidemic have gone bananas too.
You turn on the tele and what do you see? all the above, and so much violence just in the first couple of minutes of viewing. Many people wonder why they are suffering from anxiety. Heck, you are surrounded by so much chaos and you begin to feel hopeless and even afraid of what’s next. How is it even possible to work your way through all this crap?
The best way is to understand that some things are just not in your control. Like that guy in front of you on a foggy two-lane road texting or doing god knows what on his phone. Or every light turns red right before you get there!
What does that even mean? Read the last paragraph one more time. You do not have control over those around you. You only have control over how you react to those around you. Dealing with chaos is a lot of what is played out in your mind. It’s really easy to get yourself spun up when someone is stopping you from doing what you want to do. Like the example of that idiot driving down the road texting on his phone.
Chaos is inevitable and everyone has some form of it in their lives. Death of a loved one, car broke down, wife or husband was diagnosed with a certain disease, and your grandchild fighting for her life in the hospital. All are equally traumatic events and are debilitating to some degree. How we control our thoughts about chaos is how chaos will affect our emotions and even our actions.
Chaos is and always will be a part of all of our lives. It is important for all of you to look at all the chaos in your life right now and know that it is important for you to keep moving forward and not look back. You can use the past to learn, but don’t dig a hole and lay there in it. If you find yourself in a chaotic situation, stop, take a deep breath, and tell yourself you can handle this. When we stop for just a few seconds and really take a breath and slow things down in our minds, then we can make a better decision to deal with the chaos. So, without going too deep down this rabbit hole, let’s figure out how chaos theory can help you control the chaos in your life.
There are many ways we can deal with all the chaos. One of the best ways is to make plans, but expect those plans to change. You need to make some backup plans to limit the chaos those changes will make. The next best thing you can do is understand and accept that chaos will be a part of your life. Sometimes that chaos is pointing you in the right direction to maybe take the next option. Think about this the next time you feel like chaos is taking over your life; you just survived a pandemic that many others didn’t. That should ease your mind a bit. The secret is to not let yourself be incapacitated by the chaos. Be alert, identify it, and then grab the opportunities that come with it.
